Today we celebrate Sustainability Day, a day when we reflect on the steps we can take to reduce our impact on the environment. At PENDLR, we are happy to contribute to this, not only by offering sustainable products, but also by working with our customers and suppliers to create a greener future. As a wholesaler for bicycle dealers, we want to help our customers make more sustainable choices, not only by cycling, but also by selecting the products they choose more consciously. We recently shared an infographic with all our sustainability initiatives on ‘Sustainable Tuesday’, today we take a closer look at our sustainable product range.
The bicycle: A sustainable means of transport with room for improvement
The bicycle is already by nature a sustainable means of transport. Cycling reduces the use of fossil fuels and helps reduce CO2 emissions. But even in the world of cycling, there is room for improvement. Many bicycle parts and accessories are still produced with materials and processes that are harmful to the environment. This is why we at PENDLR have created the ‘Sustainable Choice’ label, so that we can work with our customers to create a bike that is truly sustainable-from the tyres to the bell.
What does ‘More Sustainable Choice’ mean?
PENDLR's ‘More Sustainable Choice’ label is not just an arbitrary label. It is the result of a careful process in which we select products that perform better in terms of sustainability than comparable alternatives. We do this by looking at existing quality standards and labels, such as products made from recycled materials or components produced in an energy-efficient way. We also include CO2 emissions in our assessment, and work closely with our suppliers to ensure transparent substantiation of sustainability claims.
Our aim with this label is to work with you to make a conscious choice in the range we offer. Sustainability does not have to be complicated, and with this label we want to make it easier to make the right decision.
A sustainable range: We are on our way!
At PENDLR, we believe that sustainability is a journey. We have started expanding our range of more sustainable products, but we know we are not there yet. Making cycling more sustainable is an ongoing process, and we work hard with our suppliers to develop better and better products.
Our ‘More Sustainable Choice’ label is a first step in that direction. By linking this label to products that are demonstrably more sustainable, we want to show that every small step counts. We already have several products and brands in our range that comply with the label.
Schwalbe: Innovative in recycling
Schwalbe is a pioneer in recycling. They have set up a programme that recycles and reuses old inner tubes, saving up to 80% energy compared to new production. Moreover, Schwalbe uses Fair Rubber in their e-bike and cargobike tyres, ensuring fair trade in natural rubber and better working conditions.
Urban Proof: circular and stylish
Urban Proof offers bike crates, bags and even chain locks made from recycled materials. They meet the Global Recycled standard and are an excellent example of how recycled materials contribute to a circular economy.
Airolube and CyclOn: sustainable bicycle maintenance with plant-based products
Traditional bicycle maintenance products are often harmful to the environment. With Airolube's plant-based products and the CyclOn Plant-based range, this is a thing of the past. Based on natural ingredients, these products reduce CO2 emissions and the use of fossil fuels. Extensively tested, they offer top performance without environmental damage.
