World Cities Day

Today we celebrate World Cities Day, a day created to draw attention to the challenges and opportunities that our growing cities present. At PENDLR, we see daily how fast cities are developing, and how important it is to think about the livability and sustainability of our urban environment as we grow.

The growth of cities and the need for sustainable mobility

Globally, cities continue to grow in size and population. In Europe, over 80% of the population is expected to live in cities by 2050 according to the European commision. This urban growth brings challenges such as traffic congestion, air pollution and a decline in overall quality of life. Mobility plays a crucial role here. The demand for efficient, clean and accessible transport solutions is more urgent than ever.

This is gradually being reflected in cities as well. More and more infrastructure is being built for cyclists and car parking spaces are giving way to bicycle parking spaces. These cars are then also increasingly parked outside the city, the road being continued by public transport or forms of micromobility.
