At PENDLR, we are constantly working on sustainability, more so: it is our mission to make everyday travel more sustainable. As today is Sustainable Tuesday, we want to highlight 5 of our sustainability initiatives. And we are curious: how can we help you (even better) to make daily journeys greener together?
Sustainable assortment
The bicycle is a sustainable means of transport. We encourage the use of bicycles, because by taking the bike instead of fuel-driven means of transport, we relieve the burden on nature. But how we as PENDLR can also help is to offer parts and accessories that don't unnecessarily burden nature. We believe in products produced in a responsible manner, for the environment and for people! This is why we have introduced the ‘Sustainable Choice’ label. Brands that are strongly represented within this label are CyclOn, Basil, Schwalbe and Urban Proof.
We are constantly expanding our range with more sustainable products and continuously work with our suppliers to achieve this. And quite honestly? We are not quite there yet and the world will not look different tomorrow immediately. Sustainability is a journey, but we have stepped up. The wheel is in the right direction and the pedals are turning.
AutoStore
Our AutoStore not only enables us to work more efficiently and faster, but also contributes significantly to making our processes more sustainable. Thanks to this system, we use our storage space much more effectively, creating significantly more capacity without expanding our current facilities. Moreover, AutoStore calculates the optimal shipping box layout for each order, leading to a reduction in both empty space and packaging material. In addition, at PENDLR we aim to maximise the combination of products from the AutoStore with products processed outside it. This saves us as much as 15% in packaging material!
Reuse of packaging boxes
At PENDLR, we are committed to minimising waste and maximising reuse. Therefore, we reuse packaging and shipping boxes as much as possible. For example, we reuse the boxes we receive from our suppliers to pack orders for our dealers. In this way, we avoid waste and ensure that all materials are used to their full potential.
Environmentally friendly transport for our colleagues
We encourage everyone to use sustainable means of transport, including our colleagues. This is why we have several Cortina bicycles available at Zwolle station to cover the ‘last mile’. In this way, we want to encourage our colleagues to leave the car at home more often and opt for a combination of public transport and cycling. This not only promotes sustainability, but also contributes positively to their vitality and health.
Sponsorship of Bike Kitchen UVA
At PENDLR, we do not only focus on making our own processes more sustainable, we also find it important to keep an outward focus. For instance, we are the founding partner of Bike Kitchen UVA (University of Amsterdam). This programme encourages you to extend the life of your bike and thus reduce the number of abandoned ‘orphan’ bikes.
In fact, the Bike Kitchen at UvA is a do-it-yourself bike repair place where students and staff can go to learn how to repair their own bikes.
